Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun United Methodist. We were pleased to gather in fellowship and love, to praise the Lord with church family and guests this first Sunday of 2023. We ring the church bell at 9:45 to call the “flock” to 10:00 Worship. Our service is live-streamed for face book.
We extend our Sympathy and Christian love to the families and friends of Dixie Northington, Clifford Miller, Jason Gregory, and Martin O’Dell who passed into the arms of Jesus this week. Others on the

Burson. We continue to pray for those suffering in Ukraine and those who are trying to get them relief. We pray for our church families, for our great country and its leaders, for our men and women in
service.
Joys to celebrate: Happy New Year to all!!! What a joy to ring the New Year in with the church bell this morning. What a blessing to be able to enjoy the warmth of spring here in mid-winter. The old saying is, each warm day we have is just one cold one we won’t have to endure. We are pleased to report Kaydie Moore is still recovering nicely from the liver transplant surgery. Verna Walters’ Christmas visitors were Grandson Andy and Debbie Siercks and great grandson Drew from California where Andy is stationed with the US Marines. The Colwells were pleased to spend time with family at Round Top, Texas, for
Christmas. We Thank, Virginia Graham for filling in for Linda on the piano this morning. Pre-church
visitor this morning was Jerene Harrelson, on her way to the farm for a Christmas celebration with
family.
We welcome visitors any Sunday morning for worship, come dressed as you are comfortable, bring the youngsters and be prepared to receive a blessing for your effort. We will be blessed by your presents.

First Baptist
Everybody needs Jesus. The Gospel of Luke shows us that what God was doing, he is still doing today. The characters in the parables each lose something of value: the man loses a sheep, the woman loses a coin and the father’s son strays. When these are found by each character, there is great rejoicing. God, too, rejoices when His lost people return to Him. Every person, even the lost, matters to God. When the lost is found, Heaven rejoices! God finds joy in saving sinners through forgiveness!

Praise the Lord for the beginning of a new year. The world is filled with issues and events that can overwhelm us, but let us be a people that shine the light of peace and joy found in Christ Jesus our Lord into the world. As certain as dawn follows night, so is the promise of God’s forgiveness and love for us all. Let His light transform you this new year. Rev. Nancy Gillard brought the message Starting the Journey to a New Year using Matthew 2: 1 – 12 as her text. Gay Smith blessed us on the organ with the song “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming”.

Everyone has their out thoughts and ways of doing things. Christmas is not how it used to be because there are many things in the world today that crowd it out.
Christmas is about Christ and his birth. This began in the Old Testament. The coming of Jesus, for told.
Num 24:17. (KJV)
People did not know his name.
Isaiah 62:2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name (KJV)
Micah 5:2. (KJV)
This is the work of God, the same God who created heaven and earth. Stand up for Jesus. He had to come first before there will be a rapture.
Isaiah 9:6. (KJV)
God spoke about Jesus throughput the Old Testament. He was born to be killed for us. In the New Testament, from Matthew to Revelation, we are looking at the Apostles’s doctrine.
It was custom in ancient days to bring a gift to the king. We see in Matthew, the wisemen brought gifts to the birth of Christ.
Going back to the book of Acts, 16:21
Devotion is a strong religious feeling.
Act 17:27.
Paul stood in the midst of the unknown God. The Lord was unknown to them because they were Pagans. Paul taught them. We are the offspring of God, of Jesus and should never place ourselves in the midst of pagans.
We should always stand up for Jesus. We can’t keep up with the world. They are trying to do away with baptism, speaking in tongues and as Christians we need to keep our focus on Jesus.
A Grinch is a mean spirited person who is unfriendly and makes others miserable. The world resembles the Grinch. People hate to see Christmas come. Christ was foretold, and we celebrate his birth. His birth is not taught in school. We study the his birth in the scriptures. God Bless.

Mt. Zion UMC
We were blessed to have Jerry Johannigmeier with us at the pulpit. Jerry wished all of us a Happy New Year before his sermon that was meant to encourage us to start anew this year with a positive attitude.
Jerry reminded us to “give all your cares and worries to God, for He cares for you”, and to begin each day with a grateful and thankful heart. He asked what can each one of us say and do to make 2023 a blessed and productive year. Let us visualize the great things God has in store for us, not relying solely on ourselves.
Let us be in the percentage of Christians who will bring about change—making things happen. We have a great “now” to live in and a great future to look forward to.
Just as in the game of football where there’s 80,000 people sitting around in the stands and only 22 on the field getting something done—we need to move out of the “bleachers of life” and get onto the ‘field of life”—taking positive action and making positive decisions for the family of God.
We must take 100% responsibility for our actions and our decisions—leaving a powerful impact on the world in the name of Jesus. Amen!

Trinity Lutheran
Thank you to all who participated in and helped with this year’s Trinity Lutheran Children’s Christmas program, especially our cast of kids. We had a trumpet solo, a piano duet, and several vocal solos and duets. Each child gave our Lord Jesus his or her very best talent and effort!!!
Angel Gabriel: Kent Lower; Angel Michael: Loralei Loman; Martin Luther: Nolan Rathert; Star: Whitley Southers; Joseph: Lane Rathert; Mary: Emma Smith; Shepherd: Ian Bergman; Wise Man; Bella Bergman: Wise Man: Reegan Viebrock; Camel: Blaine Loman.
We also thank Carmen Rathert, Sunday School Superintendent, for her direction and hard work.
These days everyone is on the lookout for a good movie to stream and watch at home. “Redeeming Love” now available on Amazon Prime is one of the best movies for Christian viewers to come along in some time. It’s a story of relentless love and perseverance set in 1850s California during the gold rush. Most importantly, however, the storyline is derived from the biblical book of Hosea and God’s relentless love for his people of Israel. Check it out. You won’t regret it.
“No church? No Jesus. Know the church? Know Jesus!” Come to church this Sunday. The triune God will meet you there in Spirit and truth.

We are an open and affirming church and welcome all to come and worship with us next Sunday morning at 9 am.
Through our faith, the birth, death and resurrection, we have found our salvation. The Living God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are always with us. We can feel God’s presence in our lives.
Rev. Dane and John Gover shared their musical talent on the guitar and Violin with the wonderful song, “Who Would Think That What Was Needed”. We observed Holy Communion with Consistory Elders Stephanie Neuenschwander and Andy Lasswell as the servers. We send prayers of love and healing for Ronnie Crowder, Kim Meszaros and Jim Switzer. We continue our prayers of love and support for the people of the Ukraine as they fight for the Democracy of all of us. After the birth of Jesus, the Magi was warned in a dream not to report to Herod. Joseph also had a dream where an Angel warned him to leave Bethlehem and go to Egypt. Their faith led them to listen and to understand. They were vigilant in doing as they were asked to do. Spiritual vigilance is important to our own faith as well. Just like it did for Mary and Joseph, that vigilance alerts us to do what needs to be done. It helps us to find those opportunities to help others and to share the gift of the Holy Spirit.
This is the year to light that candle of hope, love, faith and joy. It is a time to be vigilant to hear and see those things around us that are calling and guiding us. This resilience will let God’s light shine brightly through us as we share our love and faith with others.
We ask for His blessing that we might see him everywhere and know that he is our Savior, Amen!
