Greyhounds Fall Sports Are Off And Running In 2024 Seasons

The three Windsor High fall sports squads opened their seasons recently. Coach Chuck Speer’s football Greyhounds have won three straight games to open their season. Cross Country coach Danielle Betsworth has taken her runners to four meets to start their campaign. The Windsor volleyball team, under the direction of Nancy Rhoads played two matches to open their year.
Football – The Greyhounds have dominated their competition in the first three weeks of the year. They outscored Lone Jack 56-8, Cole Camp 49-7, and last Friday beat Linn 53-0. As a result, Windsor has been ranked in the state polls. The Greyhounds have put up points in a variety of ways which include a touchdown on the season’s opening kickoff, a multitude of rushing scores, several passing scores, one interception return, several two-point extra points, a handful of PAT kicks, and have registered three safeties on the year.
This Friday the Greyhounds will travel to Tipton for a match against the Cardinals who have also been state-ranked this season.
Cross Country – The Greyhounds have set or established many personal records to open the season. Their initial meet was at Clinton where the girls team placed third and the boys team finished fourth. Next up was the Husker Invitational where the boys were fourth and the girls placed fifth. Last week, the Greyhounds competed at Marshall where the boys squad finished second and the girls were fourth. The week ended at Knob Noster with the girls placing eighth and the boys were fourteenth in the sixteen-team competition. The leading runners for the boys this season have been Joshua Pritt and Connor Bishop. Top runners for the girl Greyhounds include Lily Betsworth and Izzy Henderson.
This Saturday the thin clads travel to Smith-Cotton for the Tiger Invitational.
Volleyball – Windsor opened its season winning a three-game sweep at Leeton. They later hosted Sherwood with the visitors taking the victory three games to one. The Greyhounds have a ten-player rotation consisting of Chloe Jenkins, Alexis Ridenour, Mallie Varner, Kyndal Allee, Julia Ashby, Aubrey Howard, Madison Miller, Nevaeh Blythe, Aubrie Heany and Bailey Pipal.
