Have I Got A Line For You!

There’s so much going on in the world that it’s hard to keep up. The Perseid meteor shower arrived Monday. I took Max (Schnauzer) for a late night walk to see if we could get a glimpse of it and caught two bright streaks zooming between the clouds. Sometimes these shows from the universe are like a vacation without the hassle and expense. They lift your spirit, or at least I’ve found that to be true. Two ancient North American structures have collapsed within nine days of each other in Glen Canyon, Utah. One native tribe warned, “It’s a bad omen” and points to impending doom. Climate change wasn’t mentioned as the cause, which is refreshing. Kamala Harris picked her running mate. Tim Walz is the Governor of Minnesota. While he allowed Minneapolis to burn during the George Floyd riots, Kamala was busy soliciting donations to help free those arrested for rioting and looting. UNBELIEVABLE! Ah well, at least he’s got the bow down. That will come in handy when meeting the demands of Xi Jinping.

A Presidential debate is scheduled for September 10. I bet the term “Border War” comes up with all the violence going on down there. This term used to have different meaning than it does now, where most folks think it involves the U.S. and Mexico. During the Civil War that term was used when Missouri and Kansas really had at it and troops from Missouri went over and shot people in Lawrence and burned a good deal of the town. A number of families had people on both sides of this fight. I grew up hearing the expression from my dad, “If you have to drive across Kansas, go at night.” When my grandfather was a boy he and my great-grandfather used to drive to Denver to visit his Aunts. No super highways back in those days for sure. The route to Colorado was marked by splashes of paint on telephone poles. And it took some time to drive to Denver back then and you would have stayed in a small town hotel along the way. My two great-great aunts in Denver never married and were school teachers there. My great-great grandfather was determined that his children all have good education, including his daughters, Mabel and Laura. He sent both of them to M.U. for their degree and to the women’s division of Columbia University in New York. They taught in Denver for many years.

Ran across a documentary last night about Amelia Earhart and a photograph discovered in the National Archives. A researcher says it may prove that she survived a landing in the Marshall Islands and was taken captive by the Japanese. At this point in time what would Japan have to hide if they did capture her and she died while in their hands? It certainly isn’t the worst thing they’ve done in the past.

Good advice is to quit while you’re ahead and I’ll do just that. Take care of yourself Old Buddy.
