This year the Annual Dinner of the Soil and Water Conservation District in Henry County will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at the Benson Center.
The Henry County SWCD is funded by the 1/10th of 1% Missouri Parks and Soils Sales Tax. This covers the wages for two staff members, cost-share programs, education activities at the schools, office supplies, equipment, etc.
All Henry County farmers, agri-businessmen and their families are invited to the event.
The meal will be catered by the B&B BBQ and will include pulled pork, cheesy potatoes, green beans, rolls, dessert, and a drink.
A highlight each year is the presentation of the Outstanding Conservation Farmer of the Year award and a slideshow presentation that shows the farming operation and activities of the recipient’s family.
The National Association of Conservation Districts theme this year is “One Water.” This is the theme for the poster contest and essay contest. There will be cash awards presented to the eight winners of the elementary poster contest and the winner of the essay contest will be reading their winning essay.
The evening entertainment will be provided by Alan Leary.
Door prizes are being donated by Henry County Businesses and will be given away at the close of the meeting.
The Board of Supervisors include: Mike Fellhoelter-Chairman, John Dameron-Vice Chairman, Darlene Baskins-Treasurer, Kevin Swaters-Member, and Travis Harper-Secretary.
Staff members are Jayme Kepley-District Specialist, and Bobbi Farmer-District Technician.
Natural Resources Conservation Services Personnel assisting the local SWCD include Makenzi Harms-Resource Conservationist, Liz Bailey-Soil Conservation Technician, and Antoinette Bullock- Soil Conservation Technician.
This annual gathering is the districts way of showing their appreciation to the local landowners and operators for their extra effort throughout the year in implementing soil saving practices.
No RSVP is necessary to attend the dinner.
