It's The Cardinals Coach Of The Week: Stacie Womack

Posted

This week's Clinton Daily Democrat "Coach of the Week" is Stacie Womack, Clinton Lady Cardinals basketball, head coach!
1) What was the team record goal at the start of the season? We really did not have a "record" goal but of course more than 17 wins which is what we had last season and to also make it further than the sweet sixteen like we did last year, which means winning districts again and conference.
2) What do you do outside of practice to further build relationships with team members? We watch film together of our previous game and also upcoming opponents. We also have team dinners and activities at my house and the girls occasionally get together outside of school and practice. We are in the gym a lot and with school and other activities we do our best.
3) How often do you practice and how long is that said practice. We practice 5 days a week for 2 hours at the beginning of the season and occasionally on a weekend here or there if need be. Once games start we practice on days when we don't have games and those are usually 1 hour to 2 hours depending on gym availability.
4) What do you have to say about your coaching staff? BE SPECIFIC! Zack and Jonathan are a great benefit to the program. They bring a knowledge of the game and are quite often thrown into drills to bring up the energy and competition when we need to work on things.
5) How do you motivate your team as a whole or a member that is feeling down about a game? Try to make them realize that as long as you are going out and giving it all you have then we are still moving forward and can learn and adjust to what needs to be done. Sometimes the ball just won't fall or calls don't go our way, but we just need to keep plugging away and learning. Film is also very helpful so we can see exactly what is and is not working.
6) Would you rather play a game at home or away? WHY? Home!! Have you heard our band??! The Cheerleaders?!
Our fans?! Clinton brings the atmosphere!
7) How do you get your team reset after losing a game? We get back in the gym and work on the things that need to be worked on. Basketball is a fundamentally strong game so usually going back to working on fundamentals will help everything.
8) As a coach what is your favorite part about the job? The Girls themselves! I love getting back in the gym teaching the game that I love with great kids and athletes!
