Looking Back:
Sports in 2022

This is my yearly review of big sporting events, and a few not-so-big events, from last year. This review includes everything from the Super Bowl to the Little League World Series, the Masters’ golf tournament to UCM, the Kentucky Derby to Wimbleton, and our local Cardinal sports.
I love the LL World Series. I think it is great when Major Leaguers drop by and spend time with the kids at Williamsport, PA. Thanks to Title IX and Billie Jean King, the ladies are well represented in this review. If this was written in the ‘30s-’60’s it would look a lot shorter. The soon-to-be 2023 Super Bowl winner should be an easy pick, am I right? I’ll go with the Chiefs. Enough talk, here is the summary of 2022. Please note, I am aware very big ‘world’ events, like Rugby, Cricket, Lacrosse, and Field Hockey championships are not included.

(Clinton Cardinal Review)

Fall: Cardinal Football made strides forward and won two games, one in District play. The Softball team continued to gain ground and went 12-15. The Volleyball team had another strong year going 19-13. Cross Country sent six to State. The boys’ Soccer team was young but improved and was able to capture six wins. The boys’ Tennis team was very inexperienced but improved as a team and individually.
Winter: The CHS girls’ Basketball kept going strong with a 17-11 record and becoming District Champs. The boys’ Basketball team moved a step closer capturing seven wins and 2nd at Districts. Wrestling (boys and girls) had a lot of weight divisions open but did well and sent two to State.
Spring: Baseball won nine games (the most in four years) with one District win. The track team took 13 to State. The girls’ soccer team worked hard and got 14 wins, a school record. Girls’ tennis went 8-6 which was tied for the best since 2012. CHS Golf went 5-0 in duals and sent one to State. Go Cards in 2023.
