The Rivers Crossing Life Center in Osceola will be closed on Wednesdays beginning February 1. The center will continue to provide comprehensive senior services and home-delivered meals to older adults in St. Clair County. The senior center, at 5215 Business Highway 13 N, will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lunch is provided to all adults 60 and older for a suggested contribution of $5, but all seniors are served, regardless of their ability to contribute. The cost for people younger than 60 is $9.50. The center serves about 375 meals monthly in the dining room and delivers about 1,425 senior meals monthly to qualified homebound adults. These meals are delivered by volunteers who often are the only in-person visitors that some seniors will see most days. The center will continue to offer a regular fitness class from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Mondays and Fridays. A variety of other fitness and enrichment classes are offered online through Zoom on Connect! Online. The center is equipped with a television and computer technology that allow staff to connect senior adults to any of the classes offered online. To learn more about these opportunities, call the center at 417-646-8292 or visit goaging.org/events. The reduction to four days a week is a cost-saving measure and will be re-evaluated in the future. The center relies on the local community for nearly half of its revenue and has experienced increased costs for food, labor, and its building, as well as a decline in contributions. Wednesday was chosen as the day to close because the center usually sees the fewest dining room guests on that day. St. Clair County Care Manager Melanie Foster will be available at Rivers Crossing from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mondays and Fridays providing information and assistance about senior services including Medicare and Medicaid options, family caregiver support, housing resources and more. Senior adults may participate in these activities: Puzzles every day, Bingo Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Dominos on 3rd Thursday after lunch from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., Toenail Clinic every 2nd Thursday of the month, first-come, first served, The Center Services Board sponsors a bake sale on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Rivers Crossing Life Center is one of 21 locations operated by Care Connection for Aging Services, a nonprofit area agency on aging that serves 13 West Central Missouri counties, including St. Clair.
