NO Carnival NO AC Fair in Appleton City this year. The carnival last year decided to not come this far west. Other carnivals expect 3-4 times the income that AC has generated for a carnival. There will be a meeting at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28 at the Forest Park Building. Ideas accompanied by how idea presenter can implement an event for the town will be solicited. Ideas are easy. It’s up to the staff to make it happen.
Immaculate Conception Church Lenten Fish Fry Dinners will be served February 24, March 10 and March 24 from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s School Hall, Montrose. They plan to serve dine-in and carry out. The menu is fried fish, Suzy Q’s, cole saw, corn bread, cookies and a drink. Adults eat for $12, children under 10 for $6. They are serving the best fish around!
KC Wolf will be at Hudson R-IX on Thursday, February 23, at 6:30 p.m. to “Edutain”. Everyone is invited.
Ash Wednesday services are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose and 5:30 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Butler.
Golden Apples is an over 50 social club that promotes the well-being of senior citizens in the cities of Appleton City, Montrose and Rockville, Missouri. Golden Apples was formed to address the issues of isolation and food security in this underserved rural area. You are invited to join them Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. for dinner and bingo (with lots of prizes).
Rockville Lions Club pancakes and sausage breakfast will be 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at the Rockville City Hall. A free will donation will be accepted. They are also having a 50/50 cash raffle.
Grace Christian Academy will have their 3rd annual hog roast dinner with silent and live auctions fundraiser Saturday, March 11 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Lowry City Civic Center, 4th & Cleveland in Lowry City. The hog roast dinner for $10 includes meat, sides, dessert and drink. Children 4-12 years eat for $6, 3 and under are free. Carry out is available. Silent auction from 4:00 – 6:30 and live auction starts at 7:00 p.m.
St. Clair Co Emergency Management is hosting a series of Community Awareness seminars to assist the residents of the area to know what to do in an emergency situation. The program will present simple skills that can help you save you and your family in case of emergency. The first seminar will be 7:00 p.m. March 24 at Appleton City Forrest Park Community Building. Other seminars are being scheduled for more communities as well.
The After Prom Committee will be taking preorders for “Rockville” Rueben sandwiches from now until March 8. Pickup will be March 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 in the circle drive of AC school. You can pay then. These Ruebens will be uncooked so all you have to do is take them home and cook them at your convenience! Ruebens are $6. Just text 660-464-0235 with your order, or leave a voicemail. They will call or text a confirmation.
The ACHS Alumni Meeting will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023 with a noon meal/meeting. Class coordinators of years ending in 3 or 8 are asked to please contact Linda Lampkin at 660-476-5857 or acmolampkin@yahoo.com to receive a detailed letter and postcard sample. Reservations of $14 may be mailed to Patti Purvis Young, 101 E. 3rd St., ACMO 64724. Alumni traveling a distances like to make plans early.
The 2023 Prom is April 15. In previous years, the AC Junior Class parents have provided an alcohol-free and drug-free all night celebration and fellowship for the junior and senior class students and their guests. This special celebration sends a clear message to every student that we care about their safety and future. They are asking for your sponsorship to continue this FREE after prom celebration. They not only are asking for cash donations but also sponsorships, items for prizes, etc. Your donation is tax deductible and will be recognized as such. If you would like to donate to the Prom All Nighter please leave your donation in the High School office, mail to Appleton City After-Prom Celebration, 408 W. 4th St. Appleton City, MO 64724 or arrange to be picked up at your location. They ask that all donations are made by Wednesday, March 1, 2023. This has been an extremely successful safe project for the ACHS prom goers. Montrose VFW Post 8820 is sponsoring their 7th Annual Montrose VFW Post 8820 Coyote Tournament March 3-5, 2023. Registration is 6:00 p.m. March 3, 2023. Check-in is March 5 at 3:00 p.m. sharp at the Montrose VFW Hall. Entry fee is $100.00 per team and there will be a $5 side pot for mangiest dog. There is a maximum of three people on a team. Coyotes may be taken by all legal methods as defined by the Missouri Dept. of Conservation. There is a cash payout for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places and the biggest dog. All participants will be entered to win door prizes and a Heritage Barkeep 22LR Revolver. Sponsors include Ryan Kalwei Trucking and Rhodes Exterminating.
