Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. We are a multidenominational Congregation. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. Little Miss Kenslee Conner rang the church bell at 9:45 to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
We extend our Sympathy and Christian love to the family and friends of Patty Malone and Kent Summers who passed into the arms of Jesus recently. Others on our prayer list are Sondra and Jackson Short, Joyce and Bob Trolinger, Donald Hill, Verna Walters, Dalton Conner, Paul Diaz’s father, Debby and Clint Land, Millie Redding, Amber, Patrick, and Brecklynn Dittmer, and Dave Burson. We pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: The 2 ½ inches of rain received over night made it exciting to come together as a church family and praise the Lord. Ms Carol chose butter scotch oatmeal cookies for pre-church for our fellowship time today. We thank her for her dedication. Tom Colwell served as liturgist for our service as Rev. Short was ill. We were pleased to sing Happy Anniversary to Don Hill and wife this morning and wish them many more. Gary Conner served as usher today. Special Music: by Shelby Bicknell was “The Best is yet to Come.” Also Special Music: “Friends” by Jeremy Reed, our Thanks to both for sharing. Donald Hill is responding to therapy following shoulder replacement a few of weeks ago; and on his way to recovery; our thanks for answered prayer. Patty Dump attended her mother Mary’s 87th Birthday, Sept 19th and reported a great day. Linda Hawkins commented on the lilac bush blooming in her yard; and several others expressed the same as well as Iris blooming. Debbie Joy is counting down one more week to retirement. Due to the sudden illness of our pastor Rev. Jackson Short, Shelby Bicknell filled the pulpit. Shelby’s message was making the most of every single day and being connected with Jesus through prayer, the importance of understanding we’re not here alone, and that our church family can be counted on for help in time of need. Our friend Shelby is a miracle in disguise, when a special song or . message is needed; we can count on him to step-up when the need arises. Saturday, September 21; Calhoun Community Church was pleased to share our church with Heather (Briggs) Schnorf and Scott Walters on the occasion of their wedding. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Walters and Best Wishes for their future. We are a diverse group here at Calhoun Community Church. We try to have a little fun, show concern for each other, as well as Praise the Lord during our church experience.

On Sunday, Pastor Pat Findley delivered the 2nd message in the ‘In The Beginning’ series in Genesis. In this message, Pastor Pat began by pointing out some undeniable truths: God created the universe, He created Adam and Eve directly and uniquely, He made His creation good, and every theory of creation requires faith because we were not there. He then went on to describe seven different theories of creation, along with the pros and cons of each. From atheist evolution to the six 24-hour days view, the book of Genesis is either dismissed or interpreted differently. Nobody is certain which theory is correct, but the question is: do we trust God’s words or the words of the world? As a Christian, there is no debate over how God so loved the world that He sent His son to die for our sins. Jesus Christ died for us so that we may flee the judgement we deserve. No matter what you have done or what you understand, salvation and forgiveness are available to you when you commit your life to Christ!

When life gets tough we often have a tendency to offer the Lord “lip service” rather than engaging in the work He wants us to do. Our Lord Jesus is gracious. He forgives us and heals our fears and weaknesses. Strength and courage are our rewards if we truly rejoice in the work. For the anthem this week our choir sang “Trust in the Lord” by Mark Hayes. Ephesians 6: 10 – 20 was the biblical text used by Rev. Nancy Gillard as she continued her sermon series on the Armor of God and her focus this week was on The Shield of Faith which was the title of her message.
We continue to collect school supplies, Best Choice Labels, reading glasses and garden seed for Festival of Sharing. Your donations may be placed on the foyer shelves. The CUT AND TIE DAY for Blankets of Love will be Wednesday, September 25 th . There is still time to donate to this mission effort. The collection will end Sunday, October 6.
Tai Chi classes continue on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:00 am. Strengthen your core and improve your balance. Come join in the fun.
An invitation is always extended to come visit First Presbyterian Church. Friendly, people will make you feel at home. Worship begins at 10:30 am.

The faithful gathered on this first day of Fall to worship the Lord. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Rebecca Sowell playing violin. We rejoiced with Avery Crump and Eldon Humphreys on their birthdays. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
Steve Sowell filled in for Pastor Joshua Sowell to bring the message. The scripture passage from his sermon was from Psalm 145. This passage reflects on the fruit of the Holy Spirit within all believers. Love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness are qualities the Holy Spirit gives every person through faith in Him. These qualities will be within our hearts. The Lord is faithful and true and never fails on His promises. (Romans 8: 28) “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him,...”
When we abide in Him, these qualities will be in our hearts. Try to share these heartfelt qualities with everyone you meet. Have a blessed week.

Greatness doesn’t come from what you can achieve or gain. Greatness comes from what we do to help the helpless and the vulnerable, Jesus said, “anyone who wants to be first, must be last.”
We are an open and affirming church and we welcome all to come and worship with us next Sunday morning at 9 am.
We send our prayers to the family of Debi Reed, as many are having health issues. Happy birthday to Ted McDaniel! We are working hard to host our annual Oktoberfest on October 19th, with serving from 3-8. We always look forward to seeing so many family, friends and new friends each year! Please join us for this fun and delicious evening!
This is my father’s world! Jesus told his disciples of the events that were soon to happen. Jesus would be nailed to the cross and he would suffer and die, but he would rise again from the dead.
We come here to this church at the brow of the hill each Sunday to worship and to hear the familiar words and hear the hymns that remind us of our covenant with God. We come to learn, to express joy, to serve others and to confess our guilt.
It makes us feel good inside and brings us meaning and purpose. When we hear the gospels of Jesus Christ, we claim it and live it with the assurance that we are the people of faith.
We know that Christ died for our sins and he arose with a victory over darkness. We love to hear the stories over and over that we know so well. Those familiar words make our hearts glad and we rejoice in them. We pray that we will not only hear the important lessons of scripture, but embrace them and take the stories out into the world and do great things in his Holy name. Amen.
