On Thursday night, Meet the Cats was held for all fall sports and extracurricular activities at Warsaw High School. The event was put on by the WHS Athletic Booster Club and included an introduction for each team/club, free concessions, games and much more fun and cameraderie between coaches, players, staff, parents and fans! Teams/clubs that were featured at Meet The Cats were football, cross country, volleyball, cheer, dance, band and pep club.
“It was very exciting to see the amount of people who showed up," said WHS Athletic Booster Club secretary Andrea Ferguson. "It’s nice when you see the parents and family members, along with all of the youth athletes showing and supporting.”
When putting on these kind of events within the school district, some mentioned how it has an impact on the community and atmosphere.
WHS Athletic Director Ryan Boyer claimed, “This event gives everyone an opportunity to come together, get a glimpse of who will be representing our school/town this season and hear a little bit about their program also.”
Even fans who attended expressed how this event is important to them.
“We went to meet the cats because, as Warsaw alumni, Gage and I love supporting the school in any way we can. Plus we got to see our favorite Wildcat athletes,” Erica Kee said.
“I think the event had a great turn out, and I even thought all the young kids enjoyed the games,” Ladycats assistant volleyball coach Ashley Reimund.
As the night continued and teams introduced themselves, news and benefits were spread. Aside from performing at games, there will be marching band competitions along with cheer competitions for each of those clubs.
“I think another great factor was the good reminder that although we are all excited for football, we also have so much more as well. In recent years, our cheerleading hasn’t had a big enough group and to hear that this year they will be attending competitions is amazing and shows so much growth,” Kee said.
As the event ended, students reflected on the night in a positive way.
“I think the Meet The Cats night went very well. It showed the importance of the community that we have and all the students who are involved,” senior cheerleader and captain Tatum Bohl said.
While the whole night was based on the sports/extracurricular activities, it also gave students and athletes time to enjoy the moment, while freshly kicking off the new school year.
Boyer added, “I truly think that one of the bigger takeaways from the night is that it gives everyone a chance to take a break from all the hard work, and come together for some fun.”
Football will open up their regular season this Friday night (8/30) in Lawson, Missouri at 7:00 PM. Ladycats volleyball will open up their regular season on Tuesday (9/3) by hosting Lincoln.
