Major Rob Hills will be the speaker at the next Christian Women’s Connection luncheon on July 16. Major Hills will be accompanied by a K9 officer and her handler.
Major Hills is the Chief Deputy of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, where he has worked for 35 years. Hills is also the president of the Board of Directors of Heartland Community Theatre. He created and is directing the July production, “Sentimental Journey,” a nostalgic compilation of classic songs, broadcasts and comedy routines from radio and early television, on stage this weekend at Heartland Theatre.
CWC luncheons are held on the third Tuesday of the month in the fellowship hall of First Assembly of God Church, 1506 E. Ohio, Clinton MO 64735. Make reservations by Friday, July 12, by calling Shirley Rucker, 417-321-0013. Catered by Melinda Dehn, the lunch is $14, and includes a hot entree, side dish, salad, dessert, and iced tea or coffee.
At the June meeting, the guest speaker was Chaplain Liz Mitchell of Springfield, who talked about the last year she spent in “expectant waiting,” as God closed doors to her previous activities and opened new ones. The new opportunities included visiting hospice patients and teaching, which provided her with satisfying opportunities for ministry.
The Clinton CWC started as a Stonecroft Christian Women’s Club, and celebrated its 40-plus anniversary in Clinton at the June luncheon by giving away seven birthday cakes as door prizes. The lunches start at 11:45 a.m., and end by 1:15 p.m., convenient for women who work, or women who want to get together with friends for lunch out or those needing a break with grown-ups from the home routine. There are no dues or membership requirements.
Trish Meyers of Gallery Three, emcee for the luncheons, is part of the CWC board, whose members decorate the tables in the theme for the month, and provide door prizes. All are welcome.
