Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. Tonya Keller and Jakra Spratt helped Kynslee Conner ring the church bell at 9:45 to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
Our prayer list includes: Sophia Bauer, Paul Diaz’s father, Wes, Tawyna, and Dalton Conner, Debby and Clint Land, Sondra and Jackson Short, Millie Redding, Amber and Patrick Dittmer and Brecklynn, and Dave Burson. Our Ms. Verna was “under the weather” this morning and we all wish her well. Prayers for less violence in our world and an end to the tension caused by political differences, our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We lift up those affected by the devastation caused by hurricane Beryl. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: We look forward to gathering at the “little church” on the Calhoun Square each Sunday morning. Again the Lord has provided a beautiful day for all to rejoice in. We enjoyed cocoanut cookies shared by Carol Lane for pre-church fellowship this morning. Jakra Spratt and Tonya Keller lit the altar candles at the beginning of our service today. Special Music: “God Bless the USA on C.D. by Lee Greenwood moved us into a celebration mood. Patty Dump expressed the joy of joining her family in a reunion Saturday, and being caught up in the love and excitement of being with extended family. The Colwells are home following two weeks visiting relatives and friends in the Round Top, Texas area. We always look forward to going and are equally glad to be home again. The sons and grandsons living in Houston have weathered the storm well. Harvesters Food comes to Calhoun the second Friday of each month several from our church volunteer to help in this worthwhile project and each receives a blessing for their effort. Jakra and Tonya served as ushers collecting the offering this morning before going downstairs for Sunday school. We are a diverse group here at Calhoun Community Church. We try to have a little fun as well as Praise the Lord during our church experience. Our final Hymn this morning

On Sunday, Children’s Ministry Directors, Micah & Kelsi Bergen, reflected on an incredible week of Vacation Bible School (VBS) which emphasized God’s rock solid truth. With approximately 100 volunteers, VBS served approximately 150 kids each of the 5 evenings offered. While VBS at First Baptist has concluded for this season, there will continue to be family nights on Wednesday evenings for the remaining weeks of summer, as well as Soul Survivor Camp at the end of July. Following this reflection, Pastor Pat Findley delivered a message titled ‘Standing For What Is True’. In this message, he referred to the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in Daniel 3. When they refused to worship the idol as the king had ordered, they were thrown into the fiery furnace. This story reminds us of how God calls us to also stand for what is true, no matter what. God, alone, is worthy of our worship. When faced with the fiery furnace, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were unsure of what God would do, but they knew what God said to do. Through faith, they accepted their fate, and while in the fiery furnace, they were joined by another who could also be seen by spectators. Jesus is also with us always. God will not always save us from the fire, but He will walk with us through the fire. As Christians, God calls us to stand for what is true, no matter what. Even when culture seems so confusing, remember your eternal citizenship and be bold! Stand on truth!
Soul Survivor Camp begins July 29th. Celebrate Recovery is on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm at the Vansant location for anyone with hurts, habits, or hangups. Worship service times are 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and Sunday School is offered at 8:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. For more information and upcoming events, please visit www.firstbaptistclinton.church or find us on Facebook at ‘First Baptist Church – Clinton, MO’.
We invite those without a church home to join us in worship of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. First Baptist Church exists to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) by loving people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

In the midst of summer our lives get busy pursuing activities and claiming our attention. We work hard all year so we can rest, recreate and break away from the everyday stresses of life. Be sure to keep in mind the one who has blessed you. Don’t leave God out of your life. Take Him with you wherever you go.
The dynamic mother and daughter duo of Elaine AuBuchon on oboe and Gay Smith on piano blessed us with the anthem this week. What a joy to witness them sharing their talents with us all. Rev. Nancy Gillard delivered the message from Mark 4: 31 – 32 titled I Could Be Doing More.
The collection of old prescription glasses for the Festival of Sharing is an on going mission project. The basket on the foyer shelf is filling up and these old outdated prescriptions will make a difference for children and adults in Mexico’s Yucatan State. Please remember to bring in your Best Choice labels. We will collect both these items through September.
First Presbyterian is hosting Jesus Camp this week. The day camp was from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm and is available for students who have completed kindergarten through 6th grades. This is a joint Vacation Bible School with the Clinton Christian Church. Campers have experienced the love of God through a week-long blend of outdoor and indoor activities.
Come fellowship and exercise at Tai Chi classes held here on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:00 am. It will help strengthen your core and improve your balance. An advanced class is available on Mondays at 11:00 am.
We invite you to visit First Presbyterian Church. Friendly, caring people will make you feel at home. Join us for worship at 10:30 am and be sure to check out the July newsletter and calendar on our website fpcclintonmo.net

Written in 1528, and still true today, and throughout eternity:
“All mankind fell in Adam’s fall; One common sin infects us all. From one to all the curse descends, and over all God’s wrath impends. Through all our powers corruption creeps, and us in dreadful bondage keeps; In guilt we draw our infant breath, and reap its fruits of woe and death. From hearts depraved to evil prone, flow thoughts and deeds of sin alone. God’s image lost, the darkened soul seeks not, nor finds, its heavenly goal.”
“But Christ, the second Adam, came to bear our sin and woe and shame, to be our life, our light, our way. Our only hope, our only stay. As by one man all mankind fell. And born in sin, was doomed to hell . So, by one man who took our place, we all were justified by grace. We thank you, Christ; new life is ours, New light, new hope, new strength, new powers. This grace our every way attend until we reach our journey’s end. TLH 562. “All Mankind Fell in Adam’s Fall.”
“None is righteous, no, not one; No one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless. No one does good, not even one.” Romans 3: 10-12.

The summer heat and humidity didn’t keep anyone from coming to worship service.
Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Rebecca Sowell playing violin. Randy Vogt and Lonny Bramell collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Joshua Sowell’s sermon was from Romans 7:1-13.
In the New Testament, we are reminded of our freedom from the laws of Moses.
In the Old Testament, animals were sacrificed to atone for one’s sin. In the New Testament Jesus died and was resurrected for everyone’s sin. With our faith and knowledge in Jesus Christ we are freed from death and united with Christ in Heaven.
We are saved by His grace and should be so grateful that we share our joy of Christ with others. To stay grounded in truth, we must read and study scripture ourselves so we are not swayed into believing falsehoods. How we act should be evidence of our faith. Spread joy and kindness this week and be blessed.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love: where there is injury, pardon: where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope: where there is darkness, light: where there is sadness, joy.
We are God’s people, bless all people everywhere. We pray for this nation and for peace.
We are an open and affirming church and welcome all to come and worship with us at 9 am next Sunday morning.
We send Birthday wishes to Madison Hughes and Donna Hughes. We were happy to have several guests today! Next Sunday we will be observing Holy Communion.
We enjoyed the wonderful presentation from our mission group on their recent trip. Each member shared their stories and experiences. Each day they had a long list of projects to complete. It was a huge success with hard worK sprinkled in with a lot of laughter and love! “We showed up and made it happen”. They all look forward to their next mission trip! Thanks to everyone who traveled so far to go and also to our church family who were very generous in supplying that community with many items that were needed. And thank God for the opportunity to help make a difference.
God comes everyday to restore and inspire us. He gives us courage and challenges us to do the right and just things.
We can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit and see the beauty of what it means to have faith.
As a Christian, we would rather serve than be served. We are people of God living in the presence of God. This is who we are. We feel the gift of salvation and celebrate that the Lord is with us, inspiring us, loving us and helping us to be the body of Christ everyday.
May you always live your faith with joy and live by the word of God.
Be the inspiration and make that difference.
