Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. We ring the church bell at 9:45 to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
We extend our Sympathy and Christian love to the family and friends of Delinda Briggs who passed into the arms of Jesus this week. Others on our prayer list are Joyce Trolinger, Donald Hill, Dalton Conner, Audrey Osborne and J.C. Brown, Anita Marriott, Paul Diaz’s father, Debby and Clint Land, Sondra Short, Millie Redding, Amber, Patrick, and Brecklynn Dittmer, and Dave Burson. We pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: It’s always a great day when we are able to gather and praise the Lord as a church family. We received two and a half inches of much needed rain on Saturday morning. Carol Lane made chocolate chip cookies for pre-church fellowship, and we look forward all week for her special treats. Brylee Keller lit the altar candles at the beginning of our service and served as usher also. Special Music: “Just as I Am,” solo by Jeremy Reed. Jeremy is especially talented and our THANKS for his sharing. Steve Siercks shared home grown tomatoes with his church family again today. Many thanks for sharing. We are a diverse group here at Calhoun Community Church. We try to have a little fun, show concern for each other, as well as Praise the Lord during our church experience.
We will have a Basement Sale August 30 & 31st as a money maker for the church. Our Fellowship Hall is packed with goodies and we are looking forward to visiting with friends and neighbors as they shop.
The Annual Calhoun Colt Show is September 6, 7, and 8th We will have a Bake Sale featuring Ms. Carol’s cinnamon rolls as well as lots of other goodies. We will have a Quilt Show again this year on Saturday Sept ih_ We invite the public to bring quilts for the show. There will be a trophy for best of show. We will be raffling a quilt made by Diane Mills during this event. We are sponsoring a Kids Corner with carnival games and popcorn for youngsters in conjunction with the Colt Show.
We invite you to be our guest any Sunday morning at 10:00, come dressed as you are comfortable, bring the children for Sunday school during the service and receive a blessing for your effort.
First Baptist
On Sunday, Personnel Committee Leader, Kristy Bateman, recognized staff members David Stocking (5 years), Kevin Griffey (23 years) and Kathy Wilson (24 years) for their dedicated service to First Baptist Church. On behalf of the committee and FBC members, Kristy expressed appreciation and gratitude for their commitment in their roles. Following this recognition, Pastor Pat Findley introduced Jared H., a once and long-time FBC member-now missionary in South Asia, to speak about missions. FBC Clinton’s ActsONE8 ministry has a heart for missions mobilization in our community, in our country and around the world. Jared aimed to clarify what it means to be a missionary by referring to the pattern of work of the 1st missionaries, Barnabus and Saul, described in Acts 13 & 14. Their work included crossing barriers, meeting lost people, preaching the gospel, making disciples, raising churches and multiplying leaders. The Christian mission is to invite others and the goal of the church is to grow together in our relationship with Jesus. Missionaries teach people to follow Christ and to grow in their relationship with Him. Every believer is called to make disciples by teaching what it means to follow Jesus. What is your next step? Whether it is making the decision to follow Jesus or to join His mission, pray for His guidance and for His mission, as well as His missionaries around the world. The good news is that we are never beyond His grace but we must receive Christ and commit our life to Him. Then, we must share the good news!
Celebrate Recovery is on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm at the Vansant location for anyone with hurts, habits, or hangups. First Presbyterian
Have you ever stopped to notice how gracious and merciful our Lord Jesus is? He offers strength for this journey we call life. Sometimes we forget and make excuses for not living the kind of life He would want us to live. Perhaps you have failed to share his love with someone in need. He offers so many simple yet important opportunities all around us. We just need to look at where he is at work and join in. Think about all God has given you and share with someone today.
Rev. Nancy Gillard continued with her series of sermons in Ephesians. This week her message, Power, Purpose and Persistence, was from Ephesians 6: 10 – 20. The weekly anthem brought by our hand chimes choir was titled “My Faith Looks Up to Thee” arranged by L. Larson.
The collection for the Festival of Sharing continues and a display is visible in the foyer. Baskets designated to each item are being filled on the foyer shelves. Have you donated to this worthwhile mission project yet? No worries as the collection will run through October. A list of needed school supplies is available to those interested in donating to the Backpacks. Garden seed for community gardens, old prescription glasses and Best Choice Labels are the other items being requested for donations. Fleece blankets will be hand made by the Presbyterian Women. Your generosity is most appreciated.
On September 8 a celebration of the church building turning 100 years old will be held. The Fellowship Committee and Deacons are planning the annual Fried Chicken Dinner after the worship service. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend this special event. We hope to have you join us for some good food and fellowship.
Tai Chi classes are great exercise on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:00 am. Strengthen your core and improve your balance.

Urich Baptist
We gathered together on this very hot Sunday at 10:30 A.M. to worship the Lord.
Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Rebecca Sowell playing violin.
We rejoiced with Millie Sloan on her 87th birthday and with Randy and Sherry Vogt on their 44th wedding anniversary. Randy Vogt and Jim Kelsay collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Joshua Sowell’s sermon was from Romans 8:18-30.
This passage describes the hope and glory we will have as God’s children now and for eternity. The God who created Heaven and earth gives us this happiness and hope of renewal. God promises that all creation will be renewed and there will be no more sin. While we are on earth, God empowers and guides us to do His will and disciplines us for our good. Give God the glory everyday for the wonderful gifts and blessings He gives us. Have a blessed week.

The ladies of the church are hosting birthdays at the Truman Lake manor this month. As always, there will be gifts, cake and fellowship! Thanks to Donna Hughes for being the chairman for this event! After the high twisting winds a few weeks ago that took down our playground equipment, the men of the church started this morning after church by drilling post holes for new playground equipment! Next Sunday is our monthly “Sweet Sunday”. Donna Hughes is in charge of that fun and delicious fellowship time!
Isaac Neuenschwander lit the altar candles to begin our worship service. The congregation sang the beautiful hymn, “Jesus, Lover of My Soul”.
Our sermon title was, “Reflexive Wisdom”.
In the Bible, there is a story of two women who had just given birth, one alive and one dead. The two women who had lost her child took the other baby for herself. Both claimed that the living child was their own. To settle who the baby really belonged to, the two women went to King Solomon for a decision of who was to keep the baby. King Solomon was a very great and wise King and could see what was happening between these two women. He quickly said to bring a sword and they would split the baby in two and each woman could have half. The mother of the child said, “Please, do not kill the child, give him to the other women”. The King knew right then that she was the real mother and gave back her child to her. This was a great example of a decision made with wisdom and justice.
All of us should think about our own reflex. When we see something that may be dangerous or that requires action, do we hesitate and stay silent, or do we stand up and say something. Our values and the way we believe makes us know when to speak, when to hold back and when to challenge others.
We need to look for those opportunities to hear and see and to live our faith as people who have been touched by Jesus Christ. Don’t wait too long to respond. We must go out into the world and share the gospel of Jesus and the love, mercy and tenderness that Jesus gives us every day of our lives.
