Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. We ring the church bell at 9:45 to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
Those on our prayer list are Sondra and Jackson Short, Patty Dump’s Mother, Joyce Trolinger, Donald Hill, Verna Walters, Dalton Conner, Paul Diaz’s father, Debby and Clint Land, Millie Redding, Amber, Patrick, and Brecklynn Dittmer, Jim, LaDawn, and Dave Burson. We pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: We have so much to be thankful for this week and praise the Lord for each blessing and opportunity we receive. We are thankful for a very successful Basement Sale. Others from the church family had garage sales and with everyone’s cooperation all the sales were successful. We were able to have two delicious Philly-steak meals from the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars stand at September Fest in Windsor. It was a great time to spread the Love of Jesus Christ to all we meet. Carol Lane made peanut butter cookies for pre-church fellowship today, and we look forward all week for her special treats. Steve Siercks lit the altar candles at the beginning of our service and served as usher. Special Music: Shelby Bicknell. Steve Siercks shared news from Barbara Sales who moved to Texas earlier this year. Barbara is doing very well, and Thank You Lord, for that blessing. Steve also shared that he and Miss Verna attended a 90th Birthday Party for Steve’s Mother- in- law in Columbia on Saturday. Happy Birthday to Mrs. Brown. Rev. Short woke this morning with symptoms of Covid. Shelby Bicknell filled in for him with a great impromptu message; and the congregation said Amen. Shelby is a talented song writer as well. We sincerely thank him for the short notice fill in. We are a diverse group here at Calhoun Community Church. We try to have a little fun, show concern for each other, as well as Praise the Lord during our church experience .
Church of Jesus Christ (of Latter Day Saints)
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints invites you to come worship with us each Sunday, 10am-12pm.
Sacrament Meeting is held 10am-11am.
Sunday School is held at 11 am-12pm on 1st & 3rd Sundays.
Priesthood and Relief Society meetings are held at 11am-12pm on 2nd & 4th Sundays.
Primary Class is held at 11am-12pm for children ages 4 through 11.
Nursery is provided at 11 am-12pm for children ages 1 through 4.
We have two full time missionaries (#660-890-4363) who are available to help teach us how to draw closer to our savior Jesus Christ and they are also available to help with family genealogy research. Two of our own Clinton Ward missionaries have returned home from their 2-year missions in Utah and Arizona. We still have one missionary who is serving his mission in Brazil, Juiz de Fora Mission.

First Baptist
On Sunday, Micah Bergen, KidMin Co-Director, delivered the message ‘Grace // Adoption’ to illustrate what it means to be adopted by God and how His grace covers us. He began by reflecting on his own struggles with doubt, guilt, and shame, even though he had a sound knowledge of who God is. Sometimes, even those who are strong in faith can find themselves feeling hopeless. Even when we know that Jesus is the only one to turn to, we can still feel unworthy. However, grace is a gift from God that we do not deserve, or even earn. While justifying grace comes from salvation and accepting Christ into our lives, sanctifying grace is always available and never ending. We can always receive God’s sanctifying grace by confessing and repenting, remembering that we are already saved. If you find yourself doubting salvation, Micah offered three important reminders:
1. We are chosen through adoption; God, our Father, intentionally chose us, with pleasure, and welcomes us.
2. We are free from the law; our identity in Christ is not based on performance. You cannot ‘earn’ your way into God’s family. He accepts all who simply believe in Him.
3. God is our Father; Our identity in Christ as God’s chosen and adopted children gives us confidence through grace.
MidWeek opportunities are offered at 6 pm on Wednesdays for kids, teens, and adults. Celebrate Recovery is on Tuesday evenings at 5:30 pm at the Vansant location for anyone with hurts, habits, or hangups. GriefShare is offered on Wednesdays at 6 pm at the Vansant location. First Presbyterian
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives we often fall short of
God’s call to love one another. We ignore those around us suffering injustice, poverty and rejection. We tune out cries of the poor in our communities. Let us be more intentionally generous, merciful and loving just as God is in pouring his redemptive grace upon us.
Blessing us with her musical talent Gay Smith played the anthem “Take My Life” arranged by Courtney. Ephesians 6:14 was the biblical text Rev. Nancy Gillard chose for her message Onward Christian Soldier.
The collection for the Festival of Sharing continues and an increasingly impressive display of donated items. Designated baskets for each item are being filled on the foyer shelves. A list of needed school supplies is available to those interested in donating to the Backpacks. Garden seed for community gardens, old prescription glasses and Best Choice Labels are other items being requested. If you haven’t had the opportunity to donate, time is on your side. The collection will continue through Sunday, October 6.
On September 8 a celebration marking the church building turning 100 years old will be held. A Fried Chicken Dinner will follow the worship service. The chicken is provided and a sign up sheet is on the bulletin for side dishes. We invite all past and present members, families and friends to come help us celebrate.
Tai Chi classes are great exercise on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:00 am. Strengthen your core and improve your balance.

Trinity Lutheran
Mark your calendars! The Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Auction will be held Sunday, September 29th at Trinity Lutheran Church-Clinton.
The Silent Auction will begin at 2:15 pm, and the Loud Auction will begin at 3:00 pm. A picnic lunch will be provided (Free will donation). Auction Items are still needed. Please make arrangements to bring them to the church prior to the auction.
The Christian religion was founded by Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus is the head of the church. The local Christian church is the cradle of the Gospel.
The local church is the primary place where God promises to meet and minister to us through Word and Sacrament.
Church attendance is important. One of the marks of Christian faith is attending worship services regularly. Why wouldn’t a Christian attend church? If a person is a believer, he or she will want to go to church and worship God with fellow believers.
The Christian religion is good. The Christian Church is good. A local Christian congregation…where the Gospel is preached correctly and the sacraments of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper are administered rightly…is good. People in church are not hypocrites. Far from it! They are faithful believers in Jesus Christ who want to worship Him in spirit and truth.
Yes, church attendance is a good thing, It’s important. Come to church this Sunday. God will be there, waiting to bless you with His faith and salvation. Praise God!

Urich Baptist
Love and kindness greeted everyone as we gathered at 10:30 am for worship service. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Rebecca Sowell playing violin.
We rejoiced with Mick Vogt on his birthday. Randy Vogt and Clint Keeney collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Joshua Sowell’s sermon was from Romans 8:31-39. (Romans 8:31 “....If God is for us, who can be against us?”) In this passage, Paul was telling everyone the depth of love God has for us. God sending His Son, Jesus, to die for us is true unbounding love. When we remain faithful in all life situations, we have certainty and hope of future glory with God. Daily Bible reading will strengthen our faith by affirming the truth of Christ’s love.

Valley Center United
We are an open and affirming church that welcomes all to come and join us for worship service next Sunday morning at 9 am.
We wish John Neuenschwander and Sharla Summer a happy birthday! Thank you to those who made sure that the bushes were trimmed and our beautiful flowers watered! As we came to church this morning, it was wonderful to see the prairie as it is changing into its fall colors!
Our Valley Center Oktoberfest will be held on Saturday, October 19th! Serving will be from 3:00- 8:00 pm. It promises to be a fun and delicious evening!
The congregation sang, “Come Now Fount of Every Blessing” and Ireland and her friend lit the candles to begin our worship service.
We believe and are encouraged to be “doers”, not just “hearers”.
When standing all by ourselves, we often wonder how we can be just like someone else? Or maybe the question to us is how do we find our own individuality? It is all about balance.
If all we do is hear and do nothing, it is not productive. We all have talents given to us. It is important to be doers of the word, but not outdoing others or be obsessed by doing or trying to be perfect. Life sometimes gives us difficulties, but love gives us tenderness. Finding that balance in our lives is so important.
Christianity is by faith alone. We give thanks for the invitation of balance.
“Almighty and gracious God, we give thanks for your never-ending presence in our lives. Speak to each of us with your voice of hope and love, that we may find encouragement and sustenance when we encounter unanticipated challenges that may confuse us. Help us to see goodness and beauty in all things.”
