Calhoun Community Church
Welcome to the Good News from Calhoun Community Church. Our church family gathers at 9:30 a.m. for pre- church food and fellowship. We use this special time for visiting one with another, welcoming guests as they arrive for Worship, and signing cards of encouragement for our card ministry. We ring the church bell at 9:45 to call our church families to worship at 10:00.
Those on our prayer list include Donald Hill, Dalton Conner, Audrey Osborne and J. C. Brown, Anita Marriott, Paul Diaz’s father, Debby and Clint Land, Sondra Short, Millie Redding, Amber, Patrick, and Brecklynn Dittmer, and Dave Burson. We pray for our military men and women and their families, as well as others in service jobs that we depend upon daily. Prayers were said for folk suffering in the aftermath of hurricane Ernesto and wild fires all over the country. We pray for guidance as we continue to grow, here on the southeast corner of the Calhoun square.
Joys to celebrate: We were excited to gather for church today as a Birthday Dinner was celebrated following church services; and what a Banquet it was. It’s amazing how a simple dish tastes so good when shared with others. Carol Lane made Snickerdoodles for pre-church fellowship, and we look forward all week for her special treats. We were pleased to sing Happy Birthday to Mason Keller who was 10 this week. Sue Lesmeister and Linda Hawkins enjoyed a trip to Springfield this week. We were pleased Ms. Verna was back today after a short illness. Mr. Steve lit the altar candles at the beginning of our service. Special Music: “I Love You More” by Jimmy Fortune on CD was shared by Steve Siercks. Brylee and Mason Keller took the offering. Mr. Donald Hill was back today with a pot of broccoli and Cheese soup to share. We are a diverse group here at Calhoun Community Church. We try to have a little fun as well as Praise the Lord during our church experience.
We will have a Basement Sale August 30 & 31st as a money maker for the church. We are looking forward to the Annual Calhoun Colt Show September 6, 7, and 8th. We will have a Bake Sale and Quilt Show again this year on Saturday Sept th at our Church. We invite the public to bring quilts for the show. There will be a trophy for best of show. We will be raffling a quilt made by Diane Mills during this event.
We invite you to be our guest any Sunday morning at 10:00, come dressed as you are comfortable, bring the children for Sunday school during the service, and receive a blessing for your effort.

On Sunday, members and guests were given the opportunity to get to know the Student Pastor candidate, Ryan Campos. With 10 years of experience in Student Ministry and 6 years of experience as a Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church in Appleton City, Ryan felt his call to student ministry as his passion for discipleship grew. Ryan’s philosophy for student ministry is to guide youth in our community to knowing Jesus, their faith, and the depths and challenges as Christians by meeting them where they are and along all areas of the spectrum of their relationship with God. Ryan also described the importance of equipping parents, as primary disciple makers, with resources and effective communication, while appealing to students of all personalities and interests. Ryan lovingly expressed his willingness to make the awkward awesome in order to show students that God loves them right where they are and to offer them something the world cannot – Jesus!

When things go wrong in life, we often times want to find the easy way out. We may act like spoiled children, and stop listening to God. Our hearts and lives are empty without God’s love. But thankfully He hears our cries and knows our anguish. Ask His forgiveness and receive His healing for your soul and joy will return.
Ephesians 4: 25 – 5:2 was the scripture used by Rev. Nancy Gillard for her message titled Mr. Goodwrench and Miss Manners. Gay Smith played the anthem “O Come, Let Us Sing to the Lord.

Mt. Calvary Apostolic Pentecostal
“The Hour is at Hand”
Do not become so involved with the world that it interferes with your communication with God. People get confused about the “hour”. Time is important at a particular time, especially the present.
It is important to get an understanding of reading the word of God. As the Lord says, get understanding. People’s “hour” is almost here. In the book of Matthew, it was Jesus’s time to die on the cross.
2Kings 20:1-6
2Kings 20:3
Hezekiah prayed to God in a humble state and wept. Sometimes God allows things to happen to get us in the right state. That pride that is deep down has to come out of us. You cannot please God with pride.
God told Isaiah to go back and tell Hezekiah that his prayer was heard, and 15 years would be added to his life.
We have to be rid of the pride so we can make it to heaven. Ask God in prayer to reveal what needs to be removed. You will not have the chance to do this on Judgement Day. God is the same God from Genesis to Revelation. He will bring things out to keep you from going to hell.
Job was perfect and upright. He didn’t ask Hod to heal him from the affliction of boils all over his body.
(Job 2:7-10)
He expressed confusion over his affliction, but continues to praise God. (Job 10:15-16)
Job 13:15
He was willing to wait for his change to come. He knew who Hod was.
(Job 14:14, 19:25-27)
Job 42:5.
We have a Bible to read, but in ancient days there was “word of mouth”. Job says heard about the Lord, through what he heard the woman or man of God. For anyone who cannot read do not let that hinder you.
Mat 26:36
Jesus was letting them know that he was hurting on the inside. When we accept, the Lord’s will, we understand we have to give in. His “hour” was at hand; for him to go to the cross, die, then resurrect. These were the events that would take place in his “hour”.

Trinity Lutheran
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is asking the congregation to donate boxed cake mixes for this year’s Christmas Cheer food boxes. The goal is 100+ boxes. Place your cake mix boxes on the table in the Narthex.
The original Sinner’s Prayer:
“I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
“Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.
“I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.”
Come to church this Sunday. God has promised to be there, waiting for you, to impart and strengthen your faith through Word and Sacrament.

Sunshine brightened our day as we gathered at 10:30 A.M. for worship service. Clint Keeney rang the church bell. Mrs. Julia Klinefelter led in the congregational singing with Mrs. Dixie Collins playing piano and Mrs. Rebecca Sowell playing violin. We rejoiced with Carl and Dixie Collins on their 59th wedding anniversary. Randy Vogt and Lonny Bramell collected the offering.
The scripture passage from Pastor Joshua Sowell’s sermon was from Romans 8:1-17.
This passage tells us that when we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we become new.
He gives us guidance to make wise decisions, gives us enduring hope, daily blessings, and especially eternal life. Through our faith in Christ we will no longer be condemned by the law of sin. Jesus forgives us. How wonderful is that. Have a blessed week.
